DESCRIPTION:
Some Nerve is a fun drill and practice browser and mobile game designed to test medical students on muscle innervation in the upper torso and arm.  For the sake of impact, below is a diagram of the upper torso’s main nerve pathways.  To see a larger image, click here.

Conceived via design principles founded in the cognition and instructional design literature, the game asks students to trigger the correct proximal nerve roots in order to flex a prompted muscle or group. The design aims to simulate the cause-and-effect phenomenon of nerve response and the complexity of nerve pathways (i.e. the synergistic results of multiple impulses from the spinal cord). Check out the intended game mechanic, behavioral, and pedagogical pathways below or click here to see the full-sized image.

The single-player experience aims to build an automated knowledge and mastery of brachial plexus innervation, preparing students for clinical pathophysiology, anatomy instruction, and physical therapy.  While the full game is unavailable at this time, feel free to check out the user experience diagram below (or an enlarged version here).  Feel free to contact me for the full design document.
